Cyst vs. Boil

Boil and Cyst are skin conditions. The Difference between Cyst and Boil is that Cyst is a appearing on the skin which is like closed capsule having sac-like structure filled with liquid or gas. A Cyst grows Slowly and it not not much painfull unless it gets enlarged. While Boil is a hair follicle infection that is deep folliculitis.

What is Boil?

Boil is a hair follicle infection which is deep folliculitis. Infection of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria causes it. It causes the pain and gets swallow the skin. It is accumulated by dead tissues and pus. Many boils get together making a head which is called carbuncles. Sty is a type of boil that forms at eyelid. Boils pop by themselves. You should not pop the boils as it may cause the infection to spread in the blood.  Boils may appear on face, neck, shoulders, armpits, buttocks and thighs.

What is Cyst?

Cyst is a appearing on the skin which is like closed capsule having sac-like structure filled with liquid or gas. Cysts may appear inside body or below the skin. They are of various sizes ranging from microscopic to small sport ball. Some of cysts are even larger that they displace the body organs internally. Cysts may cause pain but not all of its types. Cysts appearing at breasts are noticeable by touching them and may cause pain. Cysts are also produced in the brain that causes headache. Cysts may occur anywhere in the body including kidneys, liver, brain and inside tumors. It is basically an autoimmune reaction. It can be caused by parasitic infection such as tape worm.

Key Differences between Cyst and Boil

  1. Boils may appear on face, neck, shoulders, armpits, buttocks while cysts may occur anywhere in the body.
  2. Boil is a hair follicle infection which is deep folliculitis while cyst is a appearing on the skin which is like closed capsule having sac-like structure
  3. Cysts are of more than hundred types while boils are only of few types.
  4. Boils are mostly painful while cysts are mostly painless.
